Tax Clearance
Generally, no tax clearances are required for individuals leaving the country. However, in some cases a taxpayer may request a tax clearance to be issued. The Commissioner General can prevent a taxpayer leaving the country if he has good reason.

Tax Clearances are required for foreign exchange purposes. A tax clearance must be obtained from the Commissioner General for all remittances in excess of K50, 000 per calendar year, or where the remittance is to a designated tax haven country any amount irrespective of size requires a tax clearance. The tax clearance certifies that no taxes are outstanding and that all tax requirements to-date have been met.

Usually a tax clearance application requires two weeks to process. But if the applicant's tax circumstances are fully documented, a tax clearance can sometimes be issued within 24 hours.
